Following the inauguration of Kolkata's first underwater metro service by PM Modi, the Kolkata Metro authorities have announced the commencement of commercial services on three new routes, effective March 15. The train will run at an interval of 12 minutes till 9.45 pm.

General Manager Uday Reddy unveiled the plans during a press conference at Metro Bhawan, outlining the operational schedule for the newly added sections, including the historic Howrah Maidan-Esplanade route, Kavi Subhash-Hemant Mukhopadhyay section (New Garia to Ruby), and Taratalla-Majerhat Metro section (part of Esplanade Line).
The Howrah Maidan-Esplanade section, constituting part of the East West Metro project, is a groundbreaking endeavor, featuring India's first underwater metro tunnels beneath the Hooghly river bed. With the inauguration, Kolkata's metro network is set to expand further, enhancing connectivity between Howrah and Kolkata city. The underwater journey, spanning 520 meters, will offer passengers a unique experience, with the metro completing the river crossing in a mere 45 seconds.
